Dorothy
Langer has broad functional expertise in business development, sales and
marketing, strategic planning, and venture capital investing in high tech,
the Internet, and biotechnology. She held executive positions in large and
small companies where she built sales organizations, implemented marketing
and product strategies, and successfully managed the profitability of operations.
As a professional venture capitalist, she invested in high technology companies.
Her operating skills, combined with her professional investment experience,
provide her with a unique perspective on business development issues. As
President of Langer and Company, a strategy consulting firm, she advises
emerging and established companies on business development strategies, particularly
strategic alliances and M&A.
Since founding Langer and Company in 1990, Langer has consulted with over 90 leading Internet, software, hardware, and biotechnology companies including industry leaders such as Lotus Development, Adobe Systems, Kodak, Polaroid, and PictureTel; Internet pioneers like MuseumShop.com, TrainingNet, and edu.com; and many other early-stage growth ventures. She frequently appears on panels and lectures on strategic alliances, M&A, and Internet growth strategies. As an active member of a broad network of executives, entrepreneurs, investors, and business professionals, Langer is widely known as a strategic thinker with strong market knowledge and an effective, consultative approach.
Langer was Vice President of 3i Ventures, the U.S. subsidiary of UK-based 3i Group, the international venture capital giant. She launched their Boston office and forged their presence as a major East Coast venture capital player. For five years, she invested in high technology companies, actively participating as a board member in the growth and development of her portfolio companies. As Director of Northeast Operations for Businessland, the California-based computer retailer, she directed the highly-successful development of Businessland centers in New England, New York, and New Jersey. Langer joined Businessland from Gartner Group, the premier technology market research firm. As Gartner Group's first Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and as a member of the Executive Committee, she built their worldwide sales and marketing organization and participated in corporate strategic planning and policy formulation. Langer began her career with IBM where for 14 years she held key management jobs in sales, marketing, and strategic planning. In her last two IBM positions, she was Consultant to IBM's Corporate Vice President of Marketing, and then Branch Manager of IBM's Albany, New York office.
Langer received her
B.S. in Chemistry from Simmons
College. She is a member of the Advisory Board of TrainingNet
and Fulfillment
Plus, and served as a Trustee of the Simmons College Corporation,
and as a Director of Security
Dynamics Corporation (now RSA Security Inc), Interbase Software
Corporation, Persoft, Inc., Integem, Inc., and Dance
Umbrella. Langer is a member of The
Boston Club.
